The only female singer with a similar gift that immediately springs to mind is Judith Durham of the Seekers. I think she could have made it in Hollywood as well if she'd wanted it, but considering she retired for a while to lead a more private life, she'd probably not have enjoyed it.

I'm going to run the risk of burning my man card, but I'm actually starting to like The Sound of Music. It's my 2 year-old daughter's favorite movie, and she can sing along with it much better than I ever expected.

We watched the life NBC broadcast last night, and I'll have to say that neither Julie Andrews nor Christopher Plummer have anything to worry about regarding people overshadowing their acting.

Christopher Plummer kicks ass and once played a Klingon. There's your out.

As to Mary Poppins, I once watched it after far too many hours awake on an airplane. That made for a "took the brown acid" sort of experience, lemme tell ya.
